Nepal's Industry-Integrated Degree programme finalizes five core IT specializations, including AI, Cloud, and Cybersecurity, after industry consultation.
The Industry-Integrated Degree (IID) programme has finalized five technology specializations that will form the core of its bachelor's degree. The specializations were selected through extensive consultations with industry leaders and academic experts to ensure the programme prepares students for the skills most in demand in today's technology sector.
During the first year of the programme, all students will study a common curriculum covering the fundamentals of computing, programming, software engineering, mathematics, and professional skills. This foundation ensures that every student develops a broad understanding of information technology before choosing a specialization.
At the end of the first year, students will select one of five specialization tracks based on their interests, strengths, and career aspirations.
The five specialization areas are:
Application Development
Students will learn how to design, develop, test, and maintain software applications for web, mobile, and enterprise platforms using modern development tools and frameworks.
Artificial Intelligence (AI)
This specialization focuses on machine learning, generative AI, intelligent systems, and data-driven applications, preparing students to build AI-powered solutions for real-world problems.
Cloud Engineering
Students will gain expertise in cloud infrastructure, DevOps practices, containerization, automation, and cloud platforms used by modern technology companies.
Data Engineering
This track prepares students to build and manage data pipelines, databases, and large-scale data systems that support analytics, business intelligence, and AI applications.
Cybersecurity
Students will learn how to protect digital systems, networks, and information from cyber threats through secure system design, risk management, ethical hacking, and incident response.
According to the curriculum development team, these five specializations were identified after discussions with more than 40 CEOs, CTOs, software engineers, technology leaders, and university professors. The selection reflects both the current needs of Nepal's IT industry and emerging global technology trends.
By allowing students to specialize after building a strong foundation in the first year, the IID programme aims to help them develop deeper expertise in their chosen field while gaining practical industry experience throughout the remainder of their studies.
